A little piece of “the Miller story…”
Through life’s journey, it is amazing to see how God prepares us for what’s next. I grew up in Canfield, just outside of Youngstown. I have always loved this area and enjoy so much of the rich heritage and relationships that feel so much like home. So I am so excited to see God use me and my family in this next chapter of life. My wife and I met working at a summer camp 15 years ago and became friends while serving on staff together. We have always dreamed of having camp be our life. Shortly after graduating college with a Christian Education and Youth Ministry degree from Taylor University, I took a job as a youth pastor. I was there for 2 years and was then recruited by a friend to work for Youth for Christ in Michigan. We married 2 years later and spent a lot of time pouring into the lives of the teens in our town. (At the time my wife was working for a crisis pregnancy center and as a substitute teacher in the local middle and high school) Between us we seemed to know every teen in our small town. One of the best things about that time was working with a great team of people that really cared about youth. I was primarily responsible for planning trips and large events. I was also invited to lead some of the first few years of YFCamp. Great stuff happened there as always does in the camp setting. Soon we found out we were going to be parents and choose to take a break from working with students while we moved closer to our families.
God has used both my ministry experience and work outside of full time ministry to refine me and make me aware of my passions. I love the outdoors. I love working with my hands. I love to see average things become great. Most of all, I love being a part of something God is moving in and through for His purpose.
I know these vast and varied experiences have been preparing us for something. We both feel that now is the time for us to dream and move toward our passions. Camp has always been a sweet spot in our lives and we are excited to immerse our children in the environment that camp provides where team work and serving others is a daily habit. God has given me some great experiences that have prepared me to meet the challenges of a new ministry opportunity.
The Millers (Matt, Kristin, Ben, Logan, and Grant)
Greetings from Camp,
My name is Sue Sivak and on behalf of the board of directors I would like to update you as to what’s happening at camp.
As camp transitions into a new chapter of its life, the board and volunteers are working hard to keep things running smoothly. We welcome three new staff members: Matt, Butch and Molly. As the camp director, maintenance man and housekeeper, each individual is helping to raise the camp to a new level. We look forward to what will, prayerfully, be a long relationship with them.
It is our goal to work together to maintain and improve current programming, network within our community and churches, and establish new relationships.
While making this transition camp is hosting all of its traditional events. Please, look for upcoming events here on the webpage. If you are interested in renting a facility for a retreat, workshop and family event, act quickly as camp’s rentals are filling up.
Sue Sivak, Board President
You will probably never see Molly, but you will know she has been here. She works hard to provide you with a clean, comfortable and organized facility for your stay. We are fortunate to have Molly as her skills and dedication are definitely seen in her work.
Butch aka “McGyver” is a blessing to our camp. He comes to us with a wealth of experience and the commitment to get the job done. He is always willing to insure that Camp Frederick is ready for your visit with us.
